A Panchayat is a collective body of elected representatives formed to carry out the administrative functions of Panchayati Raj institutions. In the case of a Grama Panchayat, it is the main committee responsible for implementing the decisions of the Gram Sabha and managing day-to-day administration.The main components of a Panchayat are:President:The head of the Panchayat. The President presides over meetings and supervises the overall functioning of the Panchayat.Vice President:Carries out responsibilities in the absence of the President.Standing Committees:There are four Standing Committees namely Finance, Development, Welfare, and Health & Education.Ward Members:These are elected representatives from each ward of the Panchayat. Thillankeri Grama Panchayat has 14 wards.

History of Grama Panchayat

Social History The early history of Thillankeri is mainly known through folk songs and local historical traditions. Evidence suggests the existence of ancient temples, village churches, and local community assemblies in the village. The Shivaratri festival and the Thillankeri Shiva Temple are significant cultural landmarks. The village was home to people from different castes and communities living together. In earlier times, the land was under the control of the Kottayam royal family and later under various landlords. The main occupations were paddy cultivation and dry-land farming.
