Thillankery is an inland village spread over an area of 25.06 square kilometres, situated to the north-east of the coastal town of Thalassery. Purallimala, where Pazhassi Raja established a hideout during his struggle against the British, forms the southern boundary of Thillankery and stands as a reminder of its rich historical past.

Purallimala consists of a relatively level summit, a steep slope, a gentle slope below it, and a relatively flat area at the lower level. People live in the valleys and mountain slopes. The region is fertile and has numerous natural springs scattered across the area.
